Record-breaking visits of the 5th Fotofestival
The 5th Fotofestival came to an end at November 10. Now, the first evaluation results can be presented.
With 43.000 visitors, this year's Fotofestival was the most visited compared to last years. Not only the opening week-end but also the extensive festival program contributed to this success.

Two of the three favorites of this year's Portfolio Review selected to participate in "gute aussichten"
Birte Kaufmann and Stephanie Steinkopf succeeded not only in Heidelberg at the Fotofestival's Portfolio Reviews but recently in the award "gute aussichten - young german photography".
Nine photographers were chosen by the jury of this year's "gute aussichten" award and the two girls are among them.

Within the 5th Fotofestival, part of their series "The Travellers" and "Manhattan - Straße der Jugend" is exhibited at the Einraumhaus c/o Mannheim.

AdRem youth theatre at Kunstverein Ludwigshafen
The AdREm youth theatre will present a dance performance within the exhibition in Kunstverein Ludwigshafen on Saturday, November 2nd at 4 pm.
The young performers deal with the youth culture of their grandparents, parents and their own one. Inspired by the photographs from different decades and by the music of the projection at the Kunstverein, they are going to present their own body theatre interpretation of this theme.

The entrance is free.

Tour d'Art Transfrontalier on October, 19th 2013
We invite you to participate in our cross-border excursion organized in cooperation with La Chambre Strasbourg
The trip will begin at Kunsthalle Mannheim and will end with the opening of Magnum photographer Mikhael Subotzky's exhibition Retinal – Shift in Strasbourg.

11 A.M.: Start/Meeting point in Kunsthalle Mannheim - Guided tour
12.30 P.M.: Transfer to Kunstverein Ludwigshafen - Tour through the exhibition, snack and break
2 P.M.: Transfer to Wilhelm-Hack-Museum Ludwigshafen - Guided tour
3 P.M.: Transfer to Strasbourg
4.30 P.M.: Le Maillon - Guided tour through the exhibition
6 P.M.: La Chambre Strasbourg - Opening of Magnum photographer Mikhael Subotzky's exhibition Retinal – Shift. The photographer will be present.
7.30 P.M.: Return journey to Mannheim

Opening of the exhibition The Favorites

Première: The first fotofestival newspaper was published
The pilot project Festival newspaper was successful: as of today, visitors can get a free copy of our official Fotofestival newspaper in all eight venues. We wish you a very good read!
Apart from interesting reports about the organization of the Fotofestival, topical information and photo series, you will find academic texts about the history of photography and current theoretical discourses. Students of art history, art pedagogy and photography supported the newspaper with articles and images.

Portfolio Review announces favorites
After this year's Portfolio Review from 13th to 14th of September with 18 renowned experts on the national and international photography scene three favorites were chosen out of 85 participants.

The opening of the show, where works of the three photographers will be presented, will take place on the 12th of October in Einraumhaus c/o Mannheim at 3 p.m.

Photo safari for the whole family this Sunday
Join us for the SNAP Photo safari for families on Sunday, September 29th at Kunstverein Ludwigshafen! Apply now until tomorrow, September 27th, 2pm via 0621 528055 or write an e-mail to schubert@kunstverein-ludwigshafen.de.
Every family will get 12 terms and can do a photo safari to illustrate them. The winners will get a price! In addition the results of everyone will be exhibited in the entrance hall at Kunstverein Ludwigshafen. Please bring your digital camera or your mobile phone.

Panel discussion with members of the Ostkreuz Photography Agency Berlin
Advice! The location for the presentation has been changed: zeitraumexit, Hafenstraße 68, 68159 Mannheim.
Under the title What it means to be an Ostkreuz photographer the photographers Sibylle Fendt, Annette Hausschild and Heinrich Völkel will talk about their work and their current project Über Grenzen on Monday, Sept 23rd at 5 pm.

The catalogue of the 5th Fotofestival
On the occasion of tomorrow's opening of the festival the catalogue will be published, it can be purchased at all participating exhibition venues for € 20.
On 256 pages you will find texts of festival curator Andréa Holzherr on the exhibition concepts, texts to introduce to the artistic works on show and numerous illustrations.
We are now taking catalogue orders at info@fotofestival.info (plus 4 Euro shipping costs).

Public presentation of the workshop output
On sunday 15th, the public presentation of the workshop output concludes the opening weekend
At 6 p.m. Magnum photographers Chien-Chi Chang and Chris Steele-Perkins will present the results of the 4-day-workshops together with the participants. This will take place in halle02 in Heidelberg.
Admission is free.

Paolo Pellegrin receives the Dr.-Erich-Salomon-Price of the DGPh
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie (DGPh) honours the Magnum photographer Paolo Pellegrin within this years' Fotofestival with the Dr.-Erich-Salomon-Prize.
The presentation of the prize takes place on the 12th of October at 7 P.M. in ZEPHYR - RAUM für Fotografie of the Reiss-Engelhorn Museums.

Ongoing cooperation with the University of Heidelberg
Festival and Uni to work together even more closely
In addition to the existing partnership with the Institute of European Art History at the University of Heidelberg, there will be a further interdisciplinary collaboration during the upcoming winter semester.
Within the scope of the Historical Seminar, Professur für Angewandte Geschichtswissenschaft – Public History a seminar on the visitor survey will be on offer: The practical seminar will provide a short introduction to the history and theory of photography as well as to the sphere of the visitor survey that is to be conducted by the participants in the course of the Festival (Sept. 14-Nov. 11). All further information can be found in the Project description.

Cooperation with Ostkreuzschule for Photography in Berlin
Students from Mrs Masri's class from Berlin will visit the 5th Fotofestival and sit in on Portfolio Review.
They will summarize their experiences and impressions for the festival newspaper.
Nadja Masri will also be a reviewer for the Portfolio Review. Photographers whoare interested can now book a date for an interview with her.
We are delighted to announce this cooperation.

Magnum Workshops in Heidelberg
We are happy to announce the first Magnum Workshops taking place in Heidelberg from September 12th to 15th. During a four-day course, led by Chris Steele-Perkins and Chien-Chi Chang, photographers and photography students are welcome to work with these two Magnum photographers. Portfolio Review has 17 Reviewers now
With Emmanuelle Hascoët the Fotofestival has won a 17th reviewer for the Portfolio Review. She is exhibitions manager at Magnum Photos. Thus all Reviewers are confirmed. From now on you can book a date for an interview with her.

Einraumhaus C/O new partner of the 5th Fotofestival
The Fotofestival has found a new partner: The Einraumhaus C/O at the Alten Messplatz in Mannheim will host the "favorites exhibition" of the Portfolio Review. This is now the fourth important art institution next to Kunsthalle, ZEPHYR and Stadtgalerie in Mannheim that is involved in the Fotofestival.

Thomas Hoepker patron of the 5th Fotofestival
Magnum photographer Thomas Hoepker is the patron of the 5th Fotofestival! He will be in attendance on the Festival's opening weekend (13.-15.9.) and will take part in a public interview with the artist.

Stefanie Kleinsorge for the 5th Fotofestival
Stefanie Kleinsorge steps in for Carolin Ellwanger, who is on parental leave
Stefanie Kleinsorge managed a pre-press company and after that a seminar centre, before studying Art History in Heidelberg. Since then she has worked as an independent project manager, freelance author and art facilitator. She has developed various formats in the field of art facilitation in co-operation, among others, with zkm Karlsruhe and the Heidelberger Kunstverein. In affiliation with committed art facilitators, artists, scientists and educators, she founded fort da, an independent platform for art facilitation for artists. Until 2013 she was a project co-ordinator for a publishing house that focuses on photography and visual art.

Cooperation with the IEK, University of Heidelberg
Festival and uni collaborate
Art History students from Heidelberg will prepare themselves in a seminar, led by Dr. Liane Wilhelmus, for the exhibitions of the 5th Fotofestival. A festival newspaper will be created together with the students.
