OPENING OF THE 5TH FOTOFESTIVAL

We're all set: On 13 September Fotofestival Mannheim_Ludwigshafen_Heidelberg will open its 5th edition under the title Grenzgänge.Magnum: Trans-Territories. We cordially invite you and your friends to the opening event from 7 p.m. at the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum Ludwigshafen.
From 8.30 p.m. Magnum Time will introduce itself in the auditorium of the library in the neighbouring Bürgermeister-Ludwig-Reichert-Haus with a short film and a discussion round with the Magnum photographers in attendance, under the guidance of Marco Bischof. We will then be throwing an after-show party with the duo Ape Diem plus DJ Jens Wienand LastJensToDance at Kunstverein Ludwigshafen, which is likewise at Bürgermeister Ludwig-Reichert- Haus.

On Saturday, 14 September the Festival offers the opportunity to take part in artist talks, book signings and curator tours in Heidelberg.
Events will be kicked off at 3.30 p.m. by the Kunsthalle at halle02 with an artist's talk with Liu Jie in his exhibition Migrant Nation. This will be followed at 4.30 p.m. with a curator's tour with Andréa Holzherr and Dr. Thomas Röske at Sammlung Prinzhorn. From 6 p.m. the Heidelberger Kunstverein invites all comers to the exhibition Battlefield/Afghanistan and an artist's talk with the Magnum photographer Abbas.

On Sunday, 15 September the three Mannheim exhibitions will be at the focus: the opener will be a get-together in the exhibition Insight Out/Konversion at the Stadtgalerie, after that the Festival's curator will introduce the exhibition Uprooted/Exil at the Kunsthalle, where finally the film "Unterwegs" by the prematurely deceased Magnum photographer Werner Bischof will be shown. In addition, Thomas Hoepker will be doing a one-hour signing session with his photo books. Focus Mannheim will close with an artist's talk about the special project Deutschlandreise at ZEPHYR-Raum für Fotografie der Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen. On Sunday evening at 6 p.m. the participants of the workshops with the two Magnum photographers Chris Steele-Perkins and Chien-Chi Chang will present their results at halle02 (Heidelberg).

From Saturday at 11 a.m. all 8 exhibitions of the 5th Fotofestival will be open and can be visited at the opening times indicated.

Entry to all opening events is free.

We look forward to seeing you there and enjoying a varied and inspiring opening weekend with you.

Many regards,
The Festival team
